FRAMING - THE BASICS

Behind the Counter

Framing is a standard method for protecting two -dimensional works of art, such as prints or works on paper. Framing works on paper achieve two purposes. Frames made with archival quality materials insulate the artwork in an acid free environment, limiting damage from light, heat humidity and pollution. Framing is also a method for protecting art against the dangers of handling. Works of art, on paper, are among the most fragile of art objects. Because of this fact you may want to consider mounting your artwork by attaching it to a rigid support.

Mounting art, on paper, to any kind or archival board (Mounting board) will protect it against any inadvertent folding or bending. Along with work been done on your art, a semi rigid backing board will be part of your framing package. This board will provide additional support to the back of the work and shield the rear side of the frame against dust and dirt. The back of this rigid board will be taped to the rear of the frame, creating a closed environment, known as encapsulation.

One of the last additions to the art,

besides the frame, is the glass. We use two types in PROFRAME

- Reflective and Non - Reflective, although at times we do also cater for acrylic. Reflective glass is clear glass and has a higher potential to reflect light, where as non -reflective or matted glass absorbs light to create a slightly hazy, magical look. The selection of a frame by our experienced staff will be carefully considered to determine its affect on the visual appearance of the work. The chosen frame will enhance the idea expressed by the work of art
